Occupy the Hood
2011
Oil stick, acrylic and collage on canvas
48 inches by 36 inches
I was amazed at how the occupy movement had started attracting other organizations and single individuals that had nothing to do with the occupy intent. It went from being a stand against rising income inequality in America to a venue for gay rights, animal rights, hand gun laws, illegal immigration etc. I was fascinated by an image I had seen of all the tourists taking pictures of the protestors and getting their pictures taken with the protestors like they were getting their picture taken with Donald Duck.
As usual, I laughed at all of this and decided to make my painting an "Occupy the Hood" movement and had a singular marshmellow man tourists getting his picture taken in the middle of this truly useless and misdirected display of angst.
